Bay Area real estate and renting is absurd.

i really don’t understand the housing prices in the Bay Area. $500k+ for a 2 bed condo? $600k for a 2 bed home? What middle class family can afford it? How will they fair when they want to have kids? Insane.

I’ve been looking at places for the past two months and because i haven’t “fallen in love” with a place to give it a ‘yay’ and sell my life to financial anxiety. Even with a hefty down payment, I could looking to forking over 3/4 of my take-home (mortgage, property taxes, homeowner’s fees). Is this the American dream?
